The American University of Rome (AUR) is proud to announce the return of alumna Mara Nisdeo as the new Vice President of Enrollment Management. Mara graduated from AUR in 1999 and also began her professional journey here; her return signifies a full-circle moment, bringing her wealth of knowledge and expertise back to where it all began.
Upon completing her degree, Mara was offered a position at AUR as a Student Affairs Coordinator. Demonstrating skill, dedication, and leadership capacity, she advanced to the role of Director of Admissions and Financial Aid. In this role, Mara was instrumental in establishing a comprehensive Admissions service from the ground up. Her leadership and strategic vision were pivotal in increasing enrollment and laid a strong foundation for AUR’s future growth.
In 2009, Mara recognized the need to widen her experience and took her talents to Richmond, The American International University in London, where she served as the Director of RIASA Admissions. There, she successfully spearheaded the enrollment process for a new academic soccer academy, achieved year-on-year growth, and solidified her reputation as a dynamic and effective enrollment leader.
Her journey continued in 2012 at The American College of Greece (ACG), where she was appointed Dean of North American Enrollment and Study Abroad. Over her tenure, Mara achieved remarkable success, expanding the annual number of North American students from 10 to 1100 by 2023. She also secured approval from the U.S. Department of Education for ACG to award Title IV Financial Aid, enhancing accessibility to federal aid for U.S. students. Under her leadership, the number of study-abroad students in Greece surged, boosting the country's global ranking from #15 to #8.
Mara's return to AUR is a testament to her enduring commitment to the university. Reflecting on her career progression, she stated, "AUR has been a cornerstone in my personal and professional development, and it significantly shaped my career path. In my new capacity as Vice President of Enrollment Management, I am excited to utilize my skills in an environment I value. I am proud of AUR’s many accomplishments and am eager to play a role in its ongoing success."
On announcing Mara’s appointment, AUR President Scott Sprenger remarked, "Mara’s extensive experience in international enrollment, broad network of contacts, and exceptional leadership skills make her the ideal candidate for the role of AUR’s first Vice President of Enrollment Management.
